Codicils

A will can be amended by using a document known as a codicil. A codicil is written to address additional issues and sometimes changes a portion of the will. It is a document that is written or prepared by the testator at some point in time after a will has been written. Often a person will write a will and then he or she may have additional children or grandchildren and desire to add them to the beneficiary clause of the will or he or she may have acquired different assets and wish to direct their disposition in a codicil.

A will can be revoked by the testator while he or she is alive.
